Encanto, it’s not your traditional Disney princess movie, but is it better? Encanto is translated to “charm”, in English. The movie is in a small town off the coast of Columbia, and the town defiantly has some magical charm, The Madrigals.
The madrigals are the main characters in the movie, and they all have a special gift, except Mirabel. Mirabel is the main character, and she wasn’t given a gift, after watching the movie I still don’t know why. The Madrigals consist of, Mirabel, Antonio, Luisa, Isabella, Bruno, Dolores, Camillo, Pepa, Felix, and a few others.
The main conflict starts when the walls in la casita start cracking. Mirabel tries to solve the mystery and runs into long lost Bruno on the way. Ok so now to the actual review. This is one of my favorite Pixar movies by far. One of the reasons is because of the graphics. The graphics in this movie are much better than all the other Pixar movies. The colors are so rich, and you can see every detail whether it comes to the little flakes in their skin, the curls in their hair, or the embroidery on their clothing items. There’s so much detail in this movie no matter what it comes to. Another one of my favorite things about this movie is the songs of course. I love the songs because they really tell the story along and u can understand the lyrics. The songs are also very good and catchy.
I also love how there is songs dedicated to each character telling their story like, “Surface Pressure” for Luisa and, “What else can I do” for Isabella. One thing I don’t like about the movie is the storyline its about confusing, but at the same its entertaining because its not boring. I do feel like the movie is a bit rushed, but I kind of like that because I have a short attention span.
Even though the storyline is confusing you still get the overall message of the story is that you are more than your gift, and you don’t need to change who you are to fit in.
Encanto – Second Review
Finding a movie the entire family can agree on is a challenge. It’s hard to find something good that will be enjoyable for little kids, older kids, as well as adults. Recently, Disney has released a movie called Encanto, that is family friendly. The story follows a family in Colombia with magical powers, living in a magic house. Each member develops their own unique power. However, Mirabel does not receive a power. She tries her best to help and fit in with the rest of her family, yet her judgmental abuela is disappointed with everything she does. One night, Mirabel notices their magical house is cracking, but no one believes her. Mirabel makes it her duty to find out what is happening and save the magic.
The film’s soundtrack is written by Lim-Manuel Miranda, who also wrote the songs for “Hamilton”, “In the Heights”, “Moana”, and “Vivo”. The song, “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” has become the highest-charting song from Disney in over 26 years. It even exceeded “Let It Go” from “Frozen”. The song “Surface Pressure” was also a tremendous success, hitting Billboard Top 10. Overall, the songs were very good and catchy.
Encanto pays tribute to Colombian culture using animals and flowers specific to the area, and songs incorporating the country’s musical palette, which I believe was a nice touch. The movie’s animation is breathtaking and extremely detailed. It was very colorful and pleasing to the eyes. The movie’s lively voice actors add vibrance to the film and are sure to put a smile on your face.
Overall, Encanto is a good choice for any age group. With its melodious music, beautiful animation, and talented voice actors, the movie was very well put together. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a light, captivating story regarding the importance of family.
