Disney has discontinued many rides over the years, for mechanical issues or since they weren’t getting enough visitors. Out of all of Disney’s shut down rides, the ones that we will miss the most are what made Disney great.

5) The Great Movie Ride

This attraction was held at Disney World from 1989 to 2017 when it was demolished. The ride took visitors on an adventure through many famous movies including Raiders of The Lost Ark, Alien, The Wizard of Oz, and Casablanca. It was taken down to make room for a new ride called Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway.

4) Flying Saucers

The Flying Saucers attraction, made in 1961, was a major change for the Tomorrowland area of Disneyland. Guests that rode this ride went in one-person vehicles that were like bumper cars. You could steer the car by leaning on either side. Even though it was a very popular attraction, it was expensive, broke down regularly, and had a very small capacity. This caused Disney to close this ride in 1966 when they did a renovation of Tomorrowland.

3) Snow White Scary Adventures

This ride has always been a crowd favorite, and one of the oldest attractions at the time. Snow White’s Scary Adventures opened in 1955 and unfortunately closed in 2012. The ride is based off the oldest Disney movie ever made Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs. The ride was very dark and consisted of the witch offering you an apple and you getting lost in the forest. The ride painted you as Snow White and gave everyone a firsthand experience into Snow White’s world.

2) Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride

One of the rides that we will miss the most is Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. It was open for 27 years starting in 1971 and closing in 1998. When the ride closed it was replaced by Disney’s The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, while the new ride is popular it never compared to the lines for Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. In the ride there were two tracks that would take you down different scenes depending on which cart you were in though everyone ended their ride at the same point.

  • Splash Mountain

Splash Mountain was a log flume ride at Disneyworld. We would rate this the most missed ride that Disney has ever closed. They opened the ride in 1989 and it quickly became a fan favorite among the guests. Splash Mountain was themed to a 1940s movie that had racist themes. Due to this, Disney closed Splash Mountain on January 23, 2023. The ride will be re-themed based on The Princess and The Frog.
